painting & rogain shot

Just a quick update on us...we started painting the baby room this weekend while we were getting a foot of snow. When I say we, I mean Brett, and he did a fabulous job of painting all the trim, and if you have seen our house, trim was a big thing when it was built (not to mention uneven walls and uneven corners). It really brightened up the room, and our next step will be to paint the walls the blue we have picked out. I cant wait to see what it will look like! He did a really good job and he totally hates to paint. He may have some help this next week with my family coming in for the holidays! Yeah for more painters!
And an update on me...I am getting ready for week 28 with a glucose tolerance test and my second dose of what I call the rogain shot. It is really a rogam or rogram shot that I need because I am Rh- and my lovable sweetie is Rh+, so this means our baby could be either - or +. If he is Rh+, my body will try to hurt him, so I need the shot to protect him and me. So I get to plan on that shot and them taking blood not once, but twice. Lets hope I pass the glucose test the first time!

under 100 days

So, we are under 100 days until our little man's birthday...which means I can officially start to freak out about what still needs to be done, not to mention that he has to get out of me somehow. Speaking of the little man, he is moving around a ton more now, and I have scared him unintentionally at work this past week. I was making a blood milkshake and the instrument I use was making a very very loud noise that I am used to, but my little guy's ears are new and he was not prepared for the noise that he heard. He was moving around like crazy and when I stopped and said, "Sorry little guy" he seemed to calm down. So that is something new...AND he is starting to breathe this week. He is breathing in amniotic fluid (totally gross) but he is learning how to inhale and exhale, also very exciting. I have my next appointment in 2 weeks and then I think I start going every other week, which means we are getting close folks! Very close! Trimester 3 starts on Wednesday (12/17). Here is a photo of me and the little guy, taken a few weeks ago, but you can see he is starting to clearly define himself. My belly button is starting to strain at staying an innie, Brett and I think it could pop out by Christmas!

update & Thanksgiving

Our little man and I had our monthly check up this evening. We are measuring exactly where we should be; I am 25 cm big (not inches, thanks Aunt Pippy!) and right on track with my weight. I think it may be starting to catch up with me now...I have not felt any different with carrying the baby or when I move around, but today, I had to slow it down a bit. Our future soccer player was playing with Brett tonight...Brett would poke the belly and the baby would kick or punch back. Super cool to watch...and a little painful :D. All three of us are doing well and excited for Christmas.
Mary, Neal, and Kyle were in for the weekend and the baby palooza started! We had so much fun looking at baby things and we made more than one trip to babies r us. Let's just say that our little man has a fabulous wardrobe started! We had a really great time with the family and they all got to feel the baby kick up a storm one night. Thanksgiving dinner was great as well, the food was all perfect and we ended it all with a nice long nap! Happy Thanksgiving! We have so much to be thankful for this year...not to mention, next Thanksgiving, we will have a new little eater at the table! Can't wait!

BOY-OH-BOY...

We're having a BOY, as you may have guessed - although many of you didn't, as nearly 70% of those of you that voted were right there with me and went the other way. Thanks to those who voted.

So, the apple has a stem. We're thrilled beyond words. The little guy weighs in at 1 lb. 2 oz. with a heart rate of 140. We saw the spine right away. Very cool. We eventually saw hands, feet, arms, legs, and all 4 chambers of the heart. All the measurements fell within their appropriate ranges, and he's still on schedule for a mid-March birthday. Sarah is doing such a great job!

We followed up the ultrasound with a trip to the mall to pick out some onesies of the manly variety. The kid already has style. Finally, we celebrated over dinner and had a brainstorming session - boy names only for the first time.

As I type this, he's kicking up a storm. Really, we can see the belly move. Awesome.

playing football

Brett came home from a 3 day trip to Miami tonight. We totally missed him while he was gone, and the kid didn't move a lot while Brett was away...I think he/she knew his daddy was not at home. The kid would move when I talked on the phone with Brett, which is totally cute. Brett brought home a little football from the conference. He put the football on my belly, and no joke, the kid kicked the football three times!! Brett thought it was me breathing, but we could totally see the football and my belly move! It was so cool...we definitely have a kicker on our hands!

Doctor Appointment

We had a regularly scheduled Dr. appointment on Thursday last week. Strangely, these monthly visits have been getting shorter and shorter the bigger Sarah gets. At some point that probably changes, but we spent more time in the parking lot trying to figure out what to eat than we did inside. We remind ourselves that this is probably a good thing. We did get to hear the heartbeat. It has slowed down to 146, which apparently still falls right in the middle of the girl/boy range - so no new insight from me there. You'll have to stay tuned for the update on the ultrasound next week.

19 weeks & maternity clothes!

So I finally went shopping with my mom and sister and bought maternity clothes. And I must say, they are super cute and they are fun. My sister was a trooper and tried on maternity jeans with me so I would not feel so ridiculous. I also tried on a 7 month belly with some of the clothes and that was just plain weird and scary. On top of my bump already, I totally looked like I was 9 months pregnant...and I was not ready for that. Here is one of me in a new shirt that I totally love....and you can totally see the bump! We are almost half-way there!

The baby has been moving a ton more. The baby loves moving when Brett is talking to the belly, which just melts my heart. Brett likes to get the baby all riled up and then it just moves like crazy. We are having a great time!! Less than 3 weeks until we find out what we are having!

Fluttering (and Van Halen)

So we've been trying to feel the baby move off an on for a long time now. We think we've had movement a few times now. Sarah is adorable when she stops to concentrate and feel everything. Last night during the game she felt something so we stopped to try to feel the baby. We're pretty sure we felt the fluttering we've read and heard so much about. Very exciting. My laptop was close by, so I looked for music to try to get the baby riled up. Perfect time for Van Halen. Our baby rocks.

We have scheduled our second ultrasound for November 12. This is the big one....where as long as our child cooperates, we will find out if the baby is a boy or a girl. Or as Brett's boss said it best, "Hey, does your apple have a stem or what?" Only 3 more weeks!!

fingerprints!!

Our little bundle of awesome has a new development this week...fingerprints!!! We are so thrilled with this fun fact. A couple of people at work thought I said I was getting my kid fingerprinted this week....I don't even want to know how they think that would happen! Baby is getting big, about the size of my hand now....awesome!

dr. appt & round ligaments

Our doctor appointment was uneventful, which I hear they will be until we get closer to the due date. I am measuring exactly where I should be measuring, and things look good. I have the ok to make our next ultrasound appointment sometime at the end of this month!!! How exciting!!! As long as the baby cooperates, we will be finding out what we are having!
On another note, I am experiencing some round ligament pain. It is completely normal and oh so exciting (note the sarcasm). It is like an abdominal cramp that can last a few seconds to a few minutes. It is neat...and I hope this pain goes away the further i progress. :D

next appt

We have a doctor appointment on Oct 1...not sure what happens at this one, but I did hear I get to keep my clothes on this time, so I am excited for that! We will post any news once we have the appointment. And for everyone who is curious about what we are having....we have about another month to wait until we can find out!!! Late October to early November we should have our second ultrasound to see how the baby is doing and hopefully we can see if we are having a boy or a girl! Yeah! Most people are in the girl category, but the boy category has a few followers. I change my mind on a weekly basis about the sex of our baby. Right now I think it is a girl, but I know the ultrasound will show a boy (which is still totally awesome). Brett thinks we are having a girl and thinks that is what the ultrasound will show. We can't wait to find out!

looking the part

TWO people at my work commented that I look PREGNANT!! This is super exciting to me...up until about now, I have felt I look larger, but not pregnant large. So these comments are super great. I am now 15 weeks pregnant, and finally looking the part. We have our next baby appointment next week...and Brett and I are looking forward to seeing how the baby is growing and how I am doing. The baby should be about the size of an orange this week...which is some serious size people. I read on the Internet how a woman gave birth to a 19 lb baby! I just want a normal size healthy baby, not a Guinness of World Record size baby!

Phillies Game

Last night we went to the Phillies game with good friends Harvey and Julia. We were able to see the second game of a double header against the Mets. The Phillies squeaked by with a win and we had a super hilarious time. A Mets player hit a ball right at our section and it literally hit a girl two rows in front of us. She broke her wrist! So after that, every time a ball was hit in the air, Julia and I screamed like it was coming right at us! Harvey and Brett and the other fans around us thought we were ridiculous. We also bought a Phillies onesie! Go Phils! You can see Brett and I and the baby in the above photo at the game. Below are our friends Harvey and Julia!

Where's the baby?

Here's our first ultrasound picture from early August. Sarah was a champ that day. There is nothing quite like a nurse telling your pregnant wife that she can "pee just a little bit" to help ease the pain of a way too full bladder.

You can't see the baby all that well, but we threw in some arrows where the baby would have shown better if this was a better scan.

2nd trimester.....and football!

Today is the beginning of my 2nd trimester! I am 13 weeks pregnant and I am finally starting to show. My parents sent me flowers at work today to celebrate the beginning of what I hear are the best 3 months of being pregnant. Here is a photo of me in the morning with what looks like a belly. On another super fun note...football starts tonight! I don't know why, but this season I have been waiting for. I can't wait to watch all the games. I think football to me means cold weather, and I love sweaters!!!! Go Colts!

super funny moment (and super gross)

This happened to me last week...but it is too funny to not share. Last week, my sister Angela and her boyfriend Craig came for a visit. I was cleaning the bathroom and Brett was mowing the lawn. I had been doing really well with the whole nauseous thing...but tonight I knew I had eaten too much at dinner and it was not sitting well. So, i puked in the toilet. And usually I am a good puker; I don't miss because cleaning it up is way more than I can handle. But not that night...I puked in my hair and on the outer rim of the seat. So, I finish and then clean the toilet thinking, well at least that is done for the visit. Meanwhile, my throat is on fire, so I pour some milk and try to sooth my throat. Yep, my stomach says that is NOT a good idea. So I puke again;this time in my hand and on top of the closed toilet seat. So i have to open the toilet to finish puking and let me tell you, I puked up everything I had for dinner. All over the place again mind you...and it smelled awful. And to top it all off, while I was puking up my entire dinner, I also peed my pants. So again, I clean up the entire toilet seat, from top to bottom. And now, I get to take a shower to get the vomit out of my hair and because I peed myself. Nice. Brett comes in from mowing and I am sitting in the shower. He feels completely awful and I feel disgusting. Needless to say, at the end of the night, the yard was gorgeous and the toilet was sparkling clean! Yeah for pregnancy!

active heartbeat

We heard the heartbeat at out first real doctor's appt. just this past week, at about 11 weeks. They had some trouble locating the heartbeat because our kid is moving around...a lot. The nurse would get it and lose it. The doctor also got the heart beat and she lost it as well. She looks at Brett and I and says...you have a very active munchkin....and we were like yeah, we figured that out. Again, the heartbeat was super high, 156 beats a minute...which is just great. Some girls at work said this could be because we are having a girl....but others say they had high heart beats and they had boys, so we will see.

Everything at the appt. looked great. I had lost 1olbs and Brett got to ask if he can still stab me with an epi-pen if I get stung by a bee (yes he can). We have our next appt. in a month and I get to keep all my clothes on at the next one! Woo Hoo!!

1st ultrasound

So...Brett and I have had our first ultrasound. The ultrasound was absolutely amazing...our "gummy bear" (the ultrasound lady kept calling it that thank goodness, I kept calling it "the blob") was just as it should be at about 8 weeks, a blob of a human. In one photo, we can see a leg bug. The heartbeat was super strong, 158 beats a minute, which made us feel great. I drank the entire 32 oz. I was told to drink, and then I had to hold it for 20 extra minutes before the ultrasound lady came to get me. I was about to burst and i had too much water; she had to stop twice so I could pee so we could see the baby better! But it was an amazing experience and next time, I am not drinking all the water they say I need to!
